Netanyahu Meets with Graduating Students at National Security College [genuine peace provides security and deals with Iran]

[Dr. Aaron Lerner - IMRA: Is it a mistake that it seems Israel's requirements are presented as if they begin and end with security? That if there was a gizmo, or for that matter some magical incantation, that we could walk away from every last centimeter beyond the '67 line - or perhaps also even cede our sovereignty in those areas within the green line that have an Arab Israeli majority to an Israeli Arab autonomy? As if considerations of deep national heritage ties, for example, have no weight or significance (e.g. the Machpelah in Hebron)?

Here's the problem: There may not be a gizmo available today (even the much flaunted Iron Dome can't provide security under the best of circumstances for areas near border lines) but there is no shortage of policy advocates promoting various magic incantations in the form of wordings for agreements and defense pacts.

The danger? That we find ourselves cornered into a situation that requires us to explicitly reject the asserted efficacy of an incantation offered by the president of the United States.

After all, in the eyes of the believer in the incantation's powers, there is no inconsistency between having a commitment to Israel's security and doing everything and anything to force Israel to forfeit its security in exchange for the incantation.]

PM Netanyahu Meets with Graduating Students at the National Security College
(Communicated by the Prime Minister's Media Adviser)

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Thursday), 22.7.10, met with 38 students at the National Security College who will, next week, finish their studies. The students are from the IDF, ISA, Prison Service, Israel Police, Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry; there are also six overseas students from the USA, India, France, Singapore and Germany.

Prime Minister Netanyahu answered questions on diplomatic-security and socio-economic issues. He commented on US-Israel relations: "Israel-US relations are very durable and strong. This finds expression in the two countries' common policy because the Israeli and American peoples are similar in their character and values. In my recent talks with US President Barack Obama, I told him that the components of genuine peace are providing security for the State of Israel and Israelis, and dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue."
